Mclemore Club
Mclemore Club
Formerly known as Canyon Ridge this incredible 18 hole layout was recently renovated and opened back up under the name Mclemore Golf Club. Canyon ridge gives you an idea of what you will see at the golf course before arriving, but the name Mclemore takes the course to an elite level in my humble opinion. This course is nothing short of spectacular from beginning to end. The drive in makes you forget you are near the big city of chattanooga and instead takes your mind to golf experience dreamland. I made sure to give myself plenty of time for exploring ahead of our tee time so I arrived about 2 hours early, grabbed a beer, walked around the clubhouse, and sat on the patio to take in the views. I was meeting a group of buddies from Georgia that invited me. When they arrived we started out on the 6 hole short course right outside the clubhouse. This setup is one I would like to see more often in golf. Being able to come out chip and putt, grab beers, and food is ideal for today's golfer. I want an entire experience not just all golf.
Our group headed to the tee to prepare for our round. We were playing a team low ball 4 vs 4 so we had a little skin in the game as well. Hole 1 is a big drop off from the tee and really showcases the entire hole from the elevated tee, although the tee box wasn't the best part of the hole the green was. Your first epic view on the golf course is off of green number one and you really feel like you "are above the clouds". I was told how "Fantastic" hole number 6 was ahead of arriving, but it was not fantastic for me. I hit what I thought was a perfect 3 iron too long into the ravine and I escaped out of there with a triple after another drop from the rocks from my 3rd shot. 6 really was a great hole but I was not prepared 18. The pictures I had seen were incredible but the real thing is just surreal. We of course hit balls off of the cliff as this is the tradition. I didn't even finish the hole from taking so many pictures and drone shots to make sure I would have all the content to post for us! This golf course is epic in views, layout, and shape. It really offers everything I believe a modern day golfer wants. It is big but very easy to lose a ball on any hole. Greens were incredibly fast but still held a good iron shot. This demanding layout is definitely not Hacker friendly, but there are some birdie-able holes if playing the correct tees. Sign up for the Friends of Mclemore and you can play 4 times in each season throughout the year! Get out there!
